The visual storytelling of Jan Rosseel
Jan Rosseel studied documentary photography at the Royal academy of arts in The Hague, The Netherlands and photojournalism at the Danish School of Media and Journalism in Aarhus, Denmark.

His work is best described as visual storytelling, between narration and documentation. He works as a collector of memories using photography, video and objects. The starting point of his research-based projects are historical events and the notion of memory. Stories that do not only reconstruct historical events but stories that also ask questions about the reliability of our memory and our brain. He works as an investigator using methods of scientific research and journalism to build a narrative where fact and fiction coexist.

Jan Rosseel's pictures have been published in International New York Times, Le Monde, De Volkskrant / Volkskrant magazine, Vrij Nederland, de Standaard / DS Magazine, de Morgen, De Tijd, Le Vif, l'echo, Onze taal, P/f, PhotoQ, 8weekly, copypasteculture, GUP, Piel de Foto, photographer.ru and Knack / Trends, Huffington Post and FOAM Magazine.

In the framework of the workshop the visual storyteller Jan Rosseel (jan rosseel.com) will do 12 portfolio reviews, lasting 20 minutes each. Interested parties can register in home@photometria.gr. Places are limited.

Home
Home focuses on the forced migration/population exchanges that happened between Turkey and Greece and intends to express the memory of this experience through artistic expression, footage, archive research and personal stories. The concept of 'Home' is open to interpretation: home as memory, the feeling as home, home as common traditions, language, culture. The project consists of two photography workshops, one in Ioannina and one in Ankara, placements in both organisations and it will result in an exhibition and a photobook titled 'Home' to be presented in the context of Photometria in Ioannina in June 2016 and later in the year in Ankara.

Through this intercultural cooperation and the project Home, the Entefxis - Photometria Festival wishes to emphasize the unique position Ioannina city is situated to offer an example of tolerance in a

troubled world, a platform for dialogue, and link the past, present and future, and to promote the integration and development of European identity through the use of photography.
