PHOTOGRAPHERS/ Haris Kakarouhas

Haris Kakarouhas was born in Athens, Greece. He studied Cartography at the University of Thessaloniki, and Color Theory and Visual Perception at the University of Glasgow (M.Sc). He also holds a Ph.D in Photography from the University of Derby (title of thesis: ?Prosopography? - Mapping the self). He studied several different forms of art therapy in the Voicing Institute in Switzerland, Puna Multiversity in India, as well as other practices of contemporary physical psychotherapy (Freedom Institute - Amsterdam, Netherlands).

His photographic work has been published in several magazines in Greece and abroad. In 1997, Photohoros Publications published his photographic book with the title ?On the timelines? and in 2003 Apeiron Publications published his book entitled ?Suspended Time: A Cuban portrait?. The same book was also published by Dewi Lewis Publishing UK, Peliti Associati Italy, Edition Braus Germany, Actes Sud France, and Lunwerg Editiones Spain. "Suspended Time" won the ?Milos? Prize in 2004, for the Art-book of the Year in Greece. Haris Kakarouhas won the European Publishers Award for photography in 2003, and the Schweppes Photographic Portrait Prize also in 2003 as a runner up. In 2013, he served as the artistic director of the Eco-Art Festival in Athens, Greece, organized by the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change and the National Museum of Contemporary Art. Part of his work belongs to museums and private collections. He currently teaches photographic workshops under the thematic title "Awakening the Gaze".
