Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen
Finnish born Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen (b.1948) is a co-founder of the Amber Film & Photography Collective, based since 1969 in Newcastle upon Tyne. Her long-term projects, developed as exhibitions, books, and films include Byker, Step by Step, Hoppings, Writing in the Sand, The Coal Coast and Byker Revisited.
Konttinen’s photography, along with Amber’s films, was in 2011 inscribed in the UNESCO UK Memory of the World Register as ‘being of outstanding national value and importance to the United Kingdom’. On account of her embedded practice and historically vital portrayals of local communities in the North East of England in 2025 Konttinen was awarded an MBE in the 2025 New Year’s Honours list for her services to photography.
Ellie Papadimitriou
Ellie Papadimitriou was born in Smyrna in 1900, to a wealthy, progressive family with Venizelist political beliefs. She studied agronomy in England, with a view of taking over the reins of the family agricultural land. Her longed-for return to her birthplace, however, is never to come to pass: the 1922 tragedy upends the course of her life. Her specialised knowledge is put to use, instead, in another land, in the camps of the immigrants – in Greece.
Her diverse activities during the 1920s have the Refugee issue and its resolution as their common denominator. She takes part in the activities of the Refugee Settlement Commission. In the interest of preserving the wealth of the oral memory and musical tradition of the refugee population, she collaborates with Melpo Merlier at the Centre for Asia Minor Studies, which is founded in 1930. In addition, she spearheads institutions such as the “Greek Arts” (1930-1936), which, apart from securing a living for the newly arrived workforce, also promote the dissemination of the culture of Asia Minor. Thus, the wealth brought over by the immigrants at the reception points, ecclesiastical or secular, gold-embroidered or humble, is preserved, and incorporated, from there on, into the property of the modern Greek nation as “a possession for all time”.
During the 1930s, Papadimitriou becomes politically radicalised and turns to the Left. From 1936, she takes part in counter-dictatorship actions and is arrested by the August 4th regime. With the rise of fascism in Europe, she actively joins the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and takes part in the fight against Nazism. Within the same anti-war climate, she is linked to the British Secret Service. In 1941, during the German invasion, she flees to the Middle East, where, due to her political action, she is serially persecuted and exiled (Cairo, Jerusalem, Asmara). From the ruins, however, rises her rich poetic discourse with its creative conflation of politics and literature. She publishes Anatoli (“East” – Cairo, 1942) and Apokrisi (“Response”, Athens, 1946).
Upon her return to post-civil war Greece, her literary work and public interventions earn her a place as an eminent intellectual in the realm of left-wing politics. Her most significant contribution to literature is KOINOS LOGOS (The People’s Say). With her apprenticeship at the Centre for Asia Minor Studies – the leading reservoir of oral accounts – as her staring point, she comprises the historical triptych of modern Greece in 20th century: Asia Minor, the Occupation, the Civil War – a libation to historical self-awareness.
Full of days, Ellie Papadimitriou takes her final breath in 1993, in Athens.
Alastair Philip Wiper
Alastair Philip Wiper is a Copenhagen-based photographer whose work explores the beauty, logic and absurdity of how humans build — machines, systems and infrastructures, and what they reveal about our needs, desires and questions about the universe. His editorial work appears in Wired, National Geographic and Scientific American. Books include Building Stories (Danish Architectural Press, 2023) and Unintended Beauty (Hatje Cantz, 2020).
Javier Talavera
Javier Talavera, born in 1988 in Madrid, has a master’s degree in contemporary photography and is a telecommunications engineer, a combination that has defined his artistic practice and methodology.
Focusing on the relationship between our body and its representation, his work revises the portrait genre from multiple and variable approaches to who we are, always maintaining a constant questioning about the absent or disappeared body.
Dimitris Mougos
Dimitris Mougos (b. 1984, Thessaloniki, Greece) is a photographer. He studied Photography and Audiovisual Arts at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens, graduating in 2008, and later completed postgraduate studies in Image and Communication at Goldsmiths, University of London. Since 2012, he has lived and worked in Thessaloniki.
He is a member of Mougos Image and Communication, a creative practice focused on photography and graphic arts. His photobook A Couple of Photographs was first published by Petites-Maisons in 2023, followed by a second edition two years later. The exhibition of the same title has been presented at the Thessaloniki Photobiennale (2023), in collaboration with Cinobo at Opera Cinema in Athens (2024), at the Iliopoulos Museum in Filiatra (2025), and is hosted by the Photometria Festival in Ioannina in 2026.
Hanno Ketterer
Hanno Ketterer (1967) is a photographer and visual artist based in Amsterdam. For more than twenty-five years he worked in management consultancy before beginning his studies at the Fotoacademie Amsterdam in 2022. His practice focuses on long-form narrative storytelling. Working with personal and historical archives, he combines photography with images generated using AI and reworked by hand, giving visual form to moments beyond the reach of the camera.
Christos Sotiropoulos
Christos Sotiropoulos (b. 1980, Aigio, Achaia, Greece) lives and works in Patras. He studied at the School of Medicine, University of Patras, and works as a medical microbiologist. He began photographing in 2000. His work engages with provincial Greece through photography, text, memory, and the photobook form, often moving between documentary observation and personal reconstruction. He is a founding member of The Provinces, a photography platform dedicated to projects that engage with the Greek periphery. He has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad, including Athens Photo Festival, Photometria International Photography Festival, Photon Festival in Valencia, and Fotonoviembre in Tenerife. His photobooks include How Kate Bush Didn’t Save Me From Anything, Is That All There Is?, and KOYZOUVOXERO. In 2025, his photograph Street of Celebrations received first prize in Photometria Awards 2025: Non Stop Pop, judged by Alec Soth.
Vicky Georgiou
Vicky Georgiou was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1975. She graduated from the School of Physical Education & Sports Science of A.U.Th in 1997. For the next 20 years she followed a career as a professional basketball player in Greece and abroad. In 2011 she took online photography lessons at I.E.K ESP of Thessaloniki. In 2013 she earned the second Young Greek Photographers award at Kythera Photographic Encounters. In 2014, selected photos of the multiannual project “Salt Paths” –a travelogue around salt pans across the Greek region– were included in “Wielizka” Cracow Saltworks Museum’s photographic album. Two years later, she became part of the photography team selected for the publication “Thessaloniki Center, A Stroll In The City”. Since 2018 and for two years, she attended photography seminars at STUDIOTESSERA with Stratos Kalafatis.
Vassilis Nempegleriotis
Vassilis Nempegleriotis (b.1987) is a self-taught photographer based in Larissa, Central Greece, using the medium of photography since 2015. He has participated in photography seminars and is a member of Fplus photography group since 2018. His photographs have been featured in group exhibitions (Anthropause, MOMUS-Thessaloniki Museum of Photography, 2020), Photometria International Festival (2020), New Borders Belfast Photo Festival (2021), the 8th Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art (2023) and in a personal show at the Thessaloniki Photobiennale (2023).
Stratis Vogiatzis
Stratis Vogiatzis is a filmmaker, anthropologist, photographer, producer and writer. He studied economic and political sciences in Thessaloniki and social anthropology in Amsterdam dealing with children and political violence. He has published five books and he is exhibiting regularly at an international level. His work belongs to museums and private collections. He has directed independent films awarded in international film festivals. Regularly works as a facilitator-trainer in community projects applying several participatory and storytelling techniques. He is the founder of Caravan Project, a multi-layered cultural project that has produced numerous interdisciplinary audiovisual productions and community-based programs. Caravan project’s mission is to enhance collective intelligence, cultivate the art of living in a damaged planet, raise awareness upon social issues and empower citizens and communities to articulate their own voice.
George Stergiopoulos
He was born in Karditsa. He lives and works in Athens as a photographer, specializing in architectural and landscape photography.
He studied Photography and Audiovisual Arts at the School of Art Studies. He subsequently completed the department’s master’s program
titled “Photography: Research and Methodology,” delving deeper into the theoretical and
research dimensions of the medium.
Alex Bex
Alex Bex (b. 1993) is a French-Texan photographer based in Berlin whose work examines the influence of popular visual media on traditional representations, with a particular focus on masculinity and its social construction. Through his photography, he engages with the cultural narratives that he was brought up with, to study and challenge them.
A self-taught photographer, Alex initially worked within the film and music industries for press-related projects. These experiences have deepened his interest in the power and complexities of media representation within his work.
In 2025, his project ‘Memories of Dust’ won the Booooooom Photo Award, received the RPS Documentary Photography Award, and was named a finalist of the Sony World Photography Awards. The series has been featured in Réponses Photo, Fisheye Magazine, and It’s Nice That, among other outlets.
Danae Panagiotidi
Danae Panagiotidi (b. 1992, Athens – Greece) is a visual artist whose practice combines photography and research. Panagiotidi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Athens (UoA) and a Master’s degree in Photography: Research and Methodology at The University of West Attica (UNIWA). She is currently based in Athens, Greece.
Giuseppe Cardoni
Living in Umbria, he has been part of the Leica Photographic Group.
With RAI journalist, Luca Cardinalini, he co-authored a book entitled “STTL La terra ti sia lieve” and together with L. Loretoni he published a photo book called “Miserere” in 2008, “Gubbio, I Ceri” in 2011 and “Kovilj” in 2014. Also in 2014, he published “Boxing Notes” .
He dedicated himself to music photography for some years, co-authored the book “I colori del Jazz” and published “Jazz Notes” in 2019. In 2020, he published “Life and Death – Mexican Rhapsody”. In 2021 he published “Passion for Sport”, in 2023 “In and out of the ring” and “Metropolitan Fragments”. In 2025 he published “RAW”.
He exhibited his works in more than 70 personal and collective exhibitions in Italy and abroad. He was a winner or finalist in many international contests.
Kirill Muniabin
Kirill Muniabin was born in 1978 in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. He got an engineering degree in 2001 and holds a PhD in technical sciences. Kirill worked for more than 15 years in a field far from art. He has been passionate about photography since childhood. In 2022, he decided to devote himself to artistic activity. In 2024, he studied at the School of New Photography, after which he decided to focus exclusively on art photography.
Kirill participated in group exhibitions and also became a finalist and winner of several international competitions, including ND AWARDS 2024 and Photolucida Critical Mass Top 50 2025. He specializes in visual sociology and the study of the modern human environment. In his works he combines art, documentary, and post-documentary photography to create visual narratives that reflect the complexity and versatility of human experience.
Sarah Malakoff
Sarah Malakoff creates large-scale color photographs that are examinations of the home as both a refuge from and a re-creation of the outside world. She has had solo exhibitions at Blue Sky Gallery, Portland, Oregon, Anderson Yezerski Gallery, Boston, Massachusetts, Camerawork Gallery, Portland, Oregon, The Vermont Center for Photography, Brattleboro, Vermont, the Sol Mednick Gallery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, Massachusetts, and Plane Space, New York, NY. Her photographs have also been shown in numerous international group exhibitions. She received a 2001 and 2011 Artist’s Fellowship in Photography from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and a 2011 Traveling Fellowship from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Second Nature was published by Charta Art Books in 2013 and Personal History was published by Kehrer Verlag in 2022.
She currently resides in Boston, Massachusetts, is a Professor at The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, and is represented by Anderson Yezerski Gallery.
Στέφανος Πάικος
Stefanos Paikos is an award-winning documentary photographer based in Berlin, focusing on migration, conflict, and environmental change. His work has been published in The Guardian, DIE Zeit and Frankfurter Rundschau and has been showcased at international photography festivals, including Encontros da Imagem Festival, Lucie Scholarship Programm, Rotterdam Photo Festival, Hamburg Portfolio Review, Prix de la Photographie Paris, and Helsinki Photo Festival.
With a strong background in documentary storytelling, his work highlights underreported social and humanitarian issues, often shaped by political and environmental crises. His photography aims to make marginalized realities visible, using portraiture and in-depth visual narratives to challenge stereotypes and
foster deeper understanding.
Through years of working in the field, Stefanos has developed a sensitivity to the complexities of migration and displacement, capturing the lived experiences of those affected by global conflicts and climate-driven changes. His commitment to long-term projects allows him to document evolving stories with depth and authenticity.
Sveta Kaverina
Sveta Kaverina (b. 1977, former USSR) is a visual artist working with photography, video and text. With a background in cultural studies and a PhD in philosophy, she previously worked as a political journalist in Moscow before relocating to the UK in 2014 and settling in the Netherlands in 2021.
Her practice navigates spaces shaped by presence, absence, memory, mortality, and fractured identities — with embodiment and creativity serving as channels for articulating shared human experience. Employing long exposures, poetic fragmentation, and performative strategies, she investigates the slippage between reality and its representation.
Her main medium is the artist book — a material object whose physical properties Sveta engages to expand the work’s field of meaning through a dialogue between form and content. Her photobook projects have been shortlisted for the Dummy Award 2025, PhotoEspaña 2025, Encontros da Imagem 2025.
Sveta lives and works in Haarlem.
Vladimir Karamazov
Born in Sofia (Bulgaria), Vladimir Karamazov graduated classical drama theater at the National Academy of Theatre and Film Arts. He has 25 years career of professional actor and part of the company of the Bulgarian National Theater “Ivan Vazov”. He has performed many roles in theater, cinema and television. Vladimir has always loved photography, but in
2019 it becomes his main occupation. The moment has come when the interpreter of other people’s ideas becomes a creator of his own, expresses himself through photography and continues to be a creator with other means of expression. Vladimir has lived for many years in the stories and the characters of great authors from all over the world. This deep insight into the literature and drama helps him a lot as a photographer. He looks for the images, the places, the atmosphere of the plays in which he has performed. Vladimir looks for special people with dramatic and interesting stories. Photography helps him understand humanity in its complexity and scale, and reveals the true nature of it. Over the past few years, he has won a number of photography competitions.
